Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1: What is UAN and its importance?
UAN stands for Universal Account Number. It is a 12-digit number allotted to every employee contributing to EPF. It acts as an umbrella for multiple Member IDs allotted to an individual by different employers. UAN helps in linking multiple PF accounts of an employee under a single number, making it easier to manage PF accounts and facilitate online transfers and withdrawals.
Q2: How long does it take for online PF withdrawal claims to be processed?
Typically, online PF withdrawal claims are processed within 5-10 working days, provided all KYC details are updated and verified, and the claim form is filled correctly. The amount is credited directly to the bank account linked with your UAN.
Q3: Can I transfer my PF from an old employer to a new one if my previous employer is no longer active?
Yes, you can still transfer your PF. If your previous employer is no longer active or has closed down, you can choose your current employer to attest the transfer request (Form 13). Ensure your KYC details are updated and verified in your UAN.
Q4: What documents are required for online KYC update?
For online KYC update, you typically need your Aadhaar card, PAN card, and bank account details (account number and IFSC code). Ensure the name on these documents matches your name in EPFO records.
Q5: How can I check my EPF balance without logging into the portal?
You can check your EPF balance via SMS or a missed call. Send "EPFOHO UAN ENG" to 7738299899 from your registered mobile number, or give a missed call to 9966044425 from your registered mobile number. Your UAN must be activated and KYC compliant for these services.
