The e-filing portal allows individual and non-individual taxpayers to file their Income Tax Returns online easily and securely.
Visit the Income Tax e-Filing portal: incometax.gov.in and log in using your User ID (PAN/Aadhaar), password, and captcha.
Go to 'e-File' > 'Income Tax Returns' > 'File Income Tax Return'. Select the Assessment Year and Filing Type (Original/Revised).
Select the appropriate ITR Form (e.g., ITR-1, ITR-2) and the filing mode (Online/Offline Utility).
Fill in all the required details directly online or upload the JSON file generated from the offline utility.
Preview your return for accuracy and then click 'Proceed to Validation' and 'Proceed to Verification'.
Verify your return using Aadhaar OTP, Net Banking, Bank Account EVC, Demat Account EVC, or by sending a signed ITR-V to CPC, Bengaluru.
You can view and download previously filed Income Tax Returns (ITRs) and other forms from your e-filing account.
Go to 'e-File' > 'Income Tax Returns' > 'View Filed Returns/Forms'.
Select the relevant Assessment Year and click 'Submit'.
You can view the status of your return and download the ITR-V acknowledgement or the complete ITR form.
e-Verification is mandatory for all e-filed ITRs. It is the final step to complete your ITR filing process.
Go to 'e-File' > 'Income Tax Returns' > 'e-Verify Return'.
Select your preferred method for e-verification (e.g., Aadhaar OTP, Net Banking, Bank Account EVC, Demat Account EVC).
Follow the instructions for the chosen method to complete the e-verification process.
It is mandatory to link your PAN with Aadhaar. This service allows you to link them easily online.
Go to the 'Link Aadhaar' service directly: incometax.gov.in/linkaadhaar.
Enter your PAN, Aadhaar Number, Name as per Aadhaar, and your mobile number.
Check the declaration and click 'Link Aadhaar'. You will receive an OTP for verification.
You can also check the status of your Aadhaar-PAN linking on the same page.
You can verify the authenticity of a PAN card by checking its details against the Income Tax Department's records.
Enter the PAN number, Full Name, Date of Birth, and Status of the PAN holder.
Enter the captcha code displayed on the screen and click 'Submit'.
The system will display whether the PAN is active and details like the name of the PAN holder.
e-Pay Tax allows taxpayers to pay various direct taxes online through authorized banks.
Choose the type of tax you wish to pay (e.g., Income Tax, Corporate Tax) and the relevant Assessment Year.
Select your preferred payment mode (Net Banking, Debit Card, Pay at Bank Counter, RTGS/NEFT).
Follow the instructions to complete the payment. You will receive a Challan Identification Number (CIN) upon successful payment.
You can check the status of your income tax refund online through the NSDL website.
Go to the NSDL website for refund status: tin.tin.nsdl.com/oltas/refundstatuslogin.html.
Enter your PAN and select the Assessment Year for which you want to check the refund status.
Enter the captcha code displayed and click 'Proceed'.
The system will display the current status of your income tax refund.
If you are a new taxpayer or a new entity, you need to register on the e-filing portal to access its services.
Select your taxpayer type (e.g., Individual, HUF, Company, etc.) and click 'Continue'.
Enter your PAN, Name, Date of Birth/Incorporation, and other basic details. Click 'Validate'.
Fill in the detailed registration form, including contact information and setting up your password.
Submit the form and verify your registration using the OTP sent to your registered mobile number and email ID.
If you have forgotten your e-filing portal password, you can easily reset it using various methods.
On the e-Filing portal login page, click on 'Forgot Password': incometax.gov.in/resetpassword.
Enter your User ID (PAN/Aadhaar) and click 'Continue'.
Select a method to reset your password (e.g., Aadhaar OTP, e-Filing OTP, Upload DSC, Answer Secret Question, Net Banking).
Follow the instructions for the chosen method to set a new password for your account.
Form 26AS is your Annual Consolidated Tax Statement, showing details of tax deducted/collected at source, advance tax, and self-assessment tax paid.
Go to 'e-File' > 'Income Tax Forms' > 'View Form 26AS'. You will be redirected to the TRACES portal.
On the TRACES portal, select the Assessment Year and the format (HTML/Text) to view or download Form 26AS.
